Illustrated Wedding Invites

Illustrating our invites was one of the the aspects of wedding planning I was most looking forward to (and nervous about - lots of pressure to design something appropriate and attractive!). We discussed and tried out lots of different ideas, but in the end decided to go with a relatively classic monogram design with some pretty illustrated hummingbirds and an illustrated map. I did all the illustration, design and printing of the various elements myself which was incredibly fun, and I'm really pleased with the result. I tried out a bit of map illustration for the first time, which was much trickier than I expected - I definitely gained a new respect for map artists! In hindsight I would have outsourced the printing to save a couple of stressful weeks shouting at my uncooperative printer(!), but I'm glad we did it ourselves as it allowed for some nice pearlescent card and a gatefold back over the map on the interior of the invite.

After all the planning stage and roughing out concepts, I'm also now brimming with spare invite ideas which I will be perfecting and finishing off over the next few months so that I can stock my shop with some standard customisable invite designs, as well as taking commissions for completely custom invitations.

If you're planning a wedding and would like to discuss a custom monogram or invite commission with me, then feel free to send me an email and I'll be happy to have a chat with you about your ideas!

  1. Aww Bryony, they are just lovely! Well done! I dug out some of my original sketches today for ours, I really just need to get on with it and enjoy it, but there is that element of pressure! :)

  2. Thank you very much Dawn! :) I let ours get to the stage where it couldn't be put off any longer, but at least that gave some motivation to fight off the pressure. Good luck with yours!

  3. There beautiful, Unique and classic too, memorable invites, i love the colours too they pop ! When my wedding was coming up i was hugely disappointed with what was out there, lots of butterflies and peony's designs, all seemed to me very bland. I made my own invites, vintage inspired with lace edging was so proud of them. What you have created is lovely, am so sure that many other couple getting married would like something as unique

  4. Great work Bryony- lovely to see the final design and print.
I'm interested in finding out about the card you used. Did you cut the corners yourself- or did they come already cut? It makes a lovely finish either way. Well done! Mx

  6. Thank you Mel - yes I love seeing the finished product too. It's nice to see everything together as a set! I bought my card from papermilldirect.co.uk and a seller on eBay. I hand-scored and cut all the invites, and then used a corner cutter punch to do the rounded corners. Hope that helps!

  8. These are adorable! I'll definitely be thinking of you when planning my wedding! I love birds and will be having bird cake toppers and things like that so these would really tie in with that theme. :)
