Apps # 2

The second app illustration...
Business man carrying his apps around work (slightly less enthusiastically than the other guy!)

Apps

One of my favourite projects so far this term... two illustrations based on phone apps aimed at two different audiences, one for a bundle of business apps and the other for more entertainment-based apps. I used the same main concept for both, which is a visual representation of how much a smartphone can contain - and how much we would be carrying around with us if they were physical objects rather than apps!

Here's the first 'entertainment' one - this one was aimed at maybe a slightly younger, funkier audience so I went for a one-man-band/explorer look. There's around 30 apps in this one... see if you can spot them all!

Influences!

The result of a morning of severe procrastination...
Thought I'd have a go at filling out one of these things, which actually turned out to be a really fun and inspiring exercise. I hadn't realised how similar a lot of my favourite artists are, and that they share a lot of common influences too. Feeling inspired and ready for an afternoon of much less procrastination and a lot more project work now!

Case Studies

Just handed in today... this was a project on illustrating mental health case studies; mine was about a man who, after an accident, was convinced that his left leg was not his own. Trying to do something a bit different and less literal than my normal work, this idea is a little paper doll with various cut-out legs for him to try on, hopefully one will be the right fit!

The Glass Ceiling

One of my most recent uni projects; we had to produce an illustration on anything related to Feminism. I chose to do a piece on the 'glass ceiling' effect (when somebody can't progress higher in an organisation because of discrimination due to their sex, race etc). The perspective on the feet/legs in the upper floor was tricky!

Catch up

Just to catch up... some of my favourite bits and pieces from uni projects from last year...  3 pages from a gift book on gardening, and a cover for Ernest Hemingway's 'The Old Man and The Sea', a project set by the talented Will Scobie. The last four are some children's nursery rhyme designs which were my first attempt at doing papercuts; the ones above are digitally coloured versions that I used to create a proposed range of baby/children's clothes and accessories/items.
On with current work from now on!

Consequences

A few of my favourites from our summer project - we were given a starting word (mine was 'pink') and had to produce 25 illustrations that linked together in any way (visually/conceptually/wordplay/rhyming etc) and finished back with the original word.

Fresh page

hello!
I thought it was about time I started a blog for all my illustration work and general rambling.

As an introduction, this is a quick sketch of how I wish I look... me in 'summer mode' done a few months ago over the summer break from uni.

(I freckle and burn very easily, incase anyone ever needed an excuse for such a fantastic umbrella/sunshade!)
